Casa Grande Police arrest 23 in Operation Wheels of Fire

CASA GRANDE, Arizona — Casa Grande Police arrested 23 individuals during Operation Wheels of Fire, a two-day enforcement effort on March 28 and 29, 2025, targeting DUI incidents, reckless driving, and traffic crimes in the northern part of the city. The operation focused on a high-activity area identified through recent data analysis as a priority for enforcement.

Officers conducted 137 traffic stops, resulting in two aggravated DUI arrests, two misdemeanor DUI arrests, one DUI drugs arrest, one reckless driving arrest, seven criminal speed citations, and 21 civil violations. Two drivers who fled traffic stops were apprehended using advanced drone technology and aerial support from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, with charges of unlawful flight from law enforcement pending. Additional arrests included open container violations and active warrant apprehensions. The operation was supported by the Coolidge Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Casa Grande, a city of about 60,000 between Phoenix and Tucson, has seen a rise in traffic incidents—Arizona Department of Public Safety data shows a 6% increase in DUI arrests in Pinal County from 2023 to 2024. The Casa Grande Police Department emphasized their commitment to using cutting-edge technology like drones to combat dangerous driving and ensure road safety, vowing to hold reckless and impaired drivers accountable.
