GALLUP, New Mexico — On April 29, 2025, at 5:15 p.m., a violent altercation broke out between several adult males and juveniles near the Taco Bell and Gas Up at 920 East Aztec Avenue, leaving a juvenile stabbed three times and hospitalized. The Gallup Police Department is now seeking the public’s help to identify a male person of interest depicted in photos related to the incident, amid concerns about rising violence in this busy commercial area.
The juvenile victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, though their current condition remains undisclosed. The involvement of both adults and juveniles in the fight raises questions about the underlying causes, especially in a location frequented by families and young people. East Aztec Avenue has seen prior incidents, including a 2024 shooting at the intersection of Patton and Aztec Avenue where the suspect, German Giovanni Martinez, remains at large. This pattern of violence suggests that safety measures in the area may be inadequate, potentially due to insufficient police patrols or community outreach programs to address tensions among local youth. The Gallup Police Department’s reliance on public tips also highlights a possible lack of surveillance or immediate witnesses, which could delay justice for the victim.
If you have any information about the person of interest or the incident, please contact Gallup Police Dispatch at 505-722-2002 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-722-6161. McKinley County Crime Stoppers offers up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest, ensuring anonymity for tipsters.
The Gallup community must come together to support the investigation and address the root causes of such violence to ensure the safety of all residents, especially our youth.
