Flagstaff family missing after Grand Canyon trip

FLAGSTAFF, ArizonaAuthorities in Coconino County are searching for three family members—Jiyeon Lee, 23, Taehee Kim, 69, and Junghee Kim, 64—last known to be traveling from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas on Thursday, March 13, 2025, according to a missing persons alert from Sheriff Bret Axlund dated March 18, 2025. The Flagstaff family missing was reported under department case number S25-00828.

The trio, all Asian, was vacationing in a rented white 2024 BMW with California license plate 9KHN768. Vehicle GPS data last placed the Flagstaff family missing on Interstate 40 westbound at approximately 3:27 p.m. on March 13, coinciding with a major multi-vehicle accident near Williams that day. Authorities noted the crash involved 22 vehicles and resulted in two deaths, per local reports, but it’s unclear if the family’s BMW was part of it. No physical descriptions beyond ages and race were provided.

Anyone with information on the Flagstaff family missing since March 13 is urged to contact the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888. No additional sightings or vehicle updates were included in the alert. The case remains active, with no conflicting accounts reported, though their current status is unknown.

This follows other regional incidents. On March 19, 2025, a plane made an emergency landing near I-40 and Buffalo Range Road, per a sheriff’s release, unrelated to this search. Community tips are critical as the Coconino County effort continues.
