SOMERTON, ARIZONA — The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 3 sex offender notification for Alvaro Richard Leon, 59, who is now residing at 726 W. Jackson Street in Somerton.
Leon has been convicted of multiple sex offenses and is classified as a high-risk offender.
Authorities say he is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 164 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
He is not currently wanted by law enforcement.
Leon was convicted on May 12, 1994, of one count of molestation of a child in the second degree and one count of public sexual indecency to a minor in Pima County Superior Court.
He was sentenced to 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections.
His victim was a male juvenile known to him.
On April 8, 2014, he pleaded guilty to failing to give notice of a change of address and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, followed by three years of probation.
On May 23, 2022, he pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to one year in prison.
On October 19, 2022, Leon was convicted of vulnerable adult abuse, and his probation was revoked.
He was ordered to serve 2.5 years in prison.
His victim in that case was an adult male known to him.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that this notification is not intended to create fear but to keep the community informed.
Authorities have no legal authority to dictate where sex offenders live unless court-ordered restrictions apply.
Officials warn that using this information to threaten or harass offenders is not tolerated.
Residents can search for sex offenders in their area and sign up for alerts through the YCSO OffenderWatch program.
