Traffic Stop in Peridot Leads to Major Drug and Firearms Arrest

PERIDOT, Arizona — A routine traffic stop turned into a significant bust for law enforcement in Peridot on April 22, 2025, resulting in the arrest of Jesse Olivas and the seizure of drugs, firearms, and cash. At approximately 9 a.m., officers pulled over Olivas in the LBC area of Peridot, uncovering a stash that included two firearms—an AR-15 and an AK-47—along with ammunition, about one pound of methamphetamine, nearly $1,500 in cash, and drug paraphernalia. The arrest marks a critical step in the fight against drugs and illegal weapons in the community.

Olivas now faces multiple charges, including prohibited possession, misconduct involving weapons, unlawful use of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he had an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant for a parole violation, adding to the severity of his case. Methamphetamine, a highly addictive drug, and illegal firearms pose serious threats to community safety, often fueling violence and crime. This seizure highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in tackling these issues on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, where Peridot is located.

Chief Sneezy addressed the deeper issues at play, stating, “I will not tolerate our own people killing our own members, drugs and guns aren’t the problem we are the problem and without us working together as a community the problem won’t stop.” His words call for unity and collective action to address the root causes of crime in the area. The police department expressed gratitude to their dedicated officers for their vigilance and commitment to protecting the community, encouraging residents to support these efforts by reporting suspicious activity.

This arrest sends a clear message that illegal drugs and weapons will not be tolerated in Peridot. Let’s stand with our officers to keep the community safe and work together for a better future.
