Traffic Stop on I-17 Leads to Meth Seizure and Arrests

CAMP VERDE, Arizona — On April 4, 2025, at around 8:24 p.m., a traffic stop on Interstate 17 northbound near State Route 260 resulted in the arrest of two men. Dale Grant of Camp Verde and Robert Weber of Flagstaff were pulled over for civil violations. During the stop, Service K9 Deputy Gunner was deployed for a free-air sniff around the vehicle and gave a positive alert for drugs.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a small, usable amount of methamphetamine. While in the backseat of a patrol car, Weber attempted to destroy a larger amount of the drug—approximately 59.5 grams—that he had hidden in his pants. Weber later stated he had eaten some of the methamphetamine, leading to his transport to Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) for evaluation. He was booked into the Yavapai County Jail the following day, April 5, 2025.

Grant was also transported to the Yavapai County Jail, where he faces numerous drug charges related to the incident. The Yavapai County authorities commended Deputy Gunner for his role in detecting the drugs, highlighting the importance of K9 units in keeping the community safe. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
