BUFFALO, New York — A man trusted to protect kids has been caught doing the opposite. On April 9, 2025, New York State Police arrested 49-year-old John Todaro, Vice President of the Buffalo Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.), for child sex crimes. They found he had child sexual abuse material. This news has upset the Buffalo community, where Todaro was supposed to help children, not hurt them.
Todaro lives in Amherst. He faces two serious charges: sharing a sexual video of a child and having child sexual abuse material. Police say he used an app called Kik to watch and send child pornography, including a video of a 10-year-old girl being abused. As a leader in B.A.C.A., Todaro worked closely with kids who had been hurt. The group helps children feel safe by supporting them and going to court with them. Knowing Todaro had access to these kids makes people feel sick. “It breaks my heart,” said a Buffalo mom who once trusted the group. “We thought he was keeping kids safe.”
It’s hard to believe someone like Todaro could do this. B.A.C.A. is not the same as Bikers Against Predators (B.A.P.)—they’re different groups. B.A.C.A.’s job is to help kids who have been abused, giving them strength through support. In the Buffalo Chapter, Todaro was called “Doc.” The group checks its members’ backgrounds and trains them to protect kids. But Todaro hid his dark side. The chapter kicked him out fast, saying he went against everything they stand for. Still, people in Buffalo feel betrayed.
Todaro went to court in Amherst and was let out on bond. He’ll be back in court in May 2025. New York State Police are now checking if he hurt any kids directly, since he was around them through B.A.C.A. They want anyone with information to call (585) 344-6200. This arrest has made Buffalo think hard about danger. B.A.C.A. has helped many kids, but this shows bad people can hide anywhere. It’s a tough lesson: don’t trust someone just because of their title or group. Always stay alert.
The Buffalo community is trying to move forward. They still want to help kids and support B.A.C.A.’s real mission. But they’re watching everyone more closely now. They know keeping kids safe means never looking away, no matter who someone claims to be.
