Page Police arrest mother for child abuse

PAGE, Arizona — Page Police arrested a mother on March 27, 2025, after she abused her 3-year-old child at a local business, the Page Police Department reported. Officers Brandon Callio and Ethan Young arrived to find bystanders shielding the child from his intoxicated mother, who had thrown a bag of food at him, slapped his head repeatedly, and tried to place a plastic bag over his head before witnesses intervened.

The child suffered scratches on his legs, a swollen and bruised left eye, and bruising on his right cheek. Officer Callio detained the mother, leading to the Page Police arrest, while Officer Young gathered statements from witnesses who described the horrifying assault. The mother now faces felony child abuse and domestic violence charges and was booked into custody. The child was treated at Page Hospital and then turned over to the Department of Child Services for care and protection.

Page Police praised the bystanders for their bravery, noting their actions likely prevented worse harm. The department stressed that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. Page, a small tourist town near Lake Powell, doesn’t often see such incidents, but this case highlights broader issues—Arizona reported over 12,000 child abuse cases in 2023, per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, with rural areas like Page often lacking enough resources for prevention. The Page Police arrest underscores their commitment to child safety, and they’re asking for any additional info at 928-645-2463.
