WATERVLIET, New York — Watervliet Police Department arrested a 16-year-old girl on March 23, 2025, after finding her with a stolen, loaded .22 caliber handgun during a traffic stop, the department reported. The stop happened around 5:00 p.m. on the 2100 block of 2nd Avenue, where officers were checking a vehicle tied to a motor vehicle theft.
The teen, already wanted on a warrant from Troy for criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree—a class C felony—was in the car. Officers found the gun on her, confirmed it was stolen, and charged her with criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, a misdemeanor, plus other vehicle and traffic violations. She’s also got a pending case in Albany County Family Court, and they sent her there for now. She’ll face the new charges in Watervliet City Court later.
This all went down in a residential part of Watervliet, a small city just north of Albany, where 2nd Avenue runs through tight-knit neighborhoods. Police are still digging into how she got the gun and what she was up to—stolen weapons in a teen’s hands have them on edge. They’re asking anyone with info to call 518-270-3833.
