HALF MOON BAY, California — Robert A. Kimuracuellar, 37, was arrested early Saturday, March 22, 2025, after choking his 67-year-old mother at their home, ending a tense standoff with no shots fired, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The suspect’s mother, bruised and in distress, staggered into the Half Moon Bay substation around 6 p.m. Friday, seeking help from the Half Moon Bay man arrested for choking mom.
Kimuracuellar, reportedly under the influence of drugs, barricaded himself inside. She received swift medical care as deputies called in heavy support—CARES, PERT, K-9, drones, the Crisis Negotiations Unit, SWAT—joined by Belmont, San Bruno, and San Mateo police, CAL FIRE, and AMR. After hours of negotiations failed, SWAT moved in, and Kimuracuellar surrendered at dawn. Cleared medically, he’s now booked at Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
A search warrant hit the house, and the case remains active. Got info? Contact Detective J. Piper at 650-363-4062 or tip anonymously at 1-800-547-2700. Redwood City saw an elder abuse case last year, per smdailyjournal.com—no link here, just a county pattern.
