Avon Man Arrested for Drawing Swastika on Tesla in Parking Lot

AVON, Connecticut — The Avon Police Department arrested 40-year-old Steven Lowell Weinberger on charges related to the vandalism of a Tesla on March 26, 2025. At 8:08 p.m., officers responded to a complaint at 15 West Avon Road, where a white Tesla Model Y had a swastika drawn on its driver’s side door with a black sharpie-style permanent marker. The vehicle’s owners, who were dining at a nearby restaurant, were not present during the incident but discovered the vandalism upon returning to the parking lot.

The Tesla’s security cameras captured the incident, showing a male suspect in a black hooded sweatshirt approaching the vehicle, looking around, and drawing the swastika before leaving in a white sedan. Through further investigation, Avon Police identified the suspect as Weinberger, a resident of 75 Avonwood Road in Avon. During questioning, Weinberger admitted to the act, stating he was upset with the current political climate in the country and did not know the Tesla’s owner.

The Avon Police obtained an arrest warrant for Weinberger, charging him with Criminal Mischief Second Degree (CGS 53a-116) and Breach of Peace Second Degree (CGS 53a-181). He was released on a $25,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Hartford Community Court at 80 Washington Street on April 30, 2025. The Avon Police Department, led by Chief Paul J. Melanson, continues to investigate the incident, emphasizing their commitment to addressing acts of vandalism in the community.
