Tucson street racing crackdown nets arrests

TUCSON, ArizonaTucson Police Department, alongside Community Response Teams, Impaired Driver Enforcement Units, patrol officers, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Survey Unit, ran a street racing sweep across the city on March 22, 2025. They hit multiple takeover spots, making 30 traffic stops, several arrests, impounding eight vehicles, and recovering two guns.

It started Saturday night when police got word of illegal street racing popping off in different parts of Tucson. They moved fast, breaking up the gatherings where cars were burning rubber and crowds were watching. Those takeovers aren’t just loud—they wreck property, costing thousands, and put everyone nearby at risk. The two firearms they found only upped the stakes, showing how dangerous these events can get.

Tucson Police are doubling down, saying they’ll keep working with other agencies to shut down street racing hard. They’re not just after drivers—spectators can get nabbed too, facing big fines, sometimes thousands of dollars. TPD’s been dealing with this for years, especially on the south and east sides where wide streets draw crowds. They’re asking folks to report any racing they see to help keep the city safe.
