Hualapai Nation Police arrest two in train robbery case

PEACH SPRINGS, Arizona — Hualapai Nation Police arrested two suspects on March 27, 2025, after a chaotic series of events involving a train robbery, unlawful flight, and an aggravated assault on an officer. The incident began at around 2:40 a.m. when officers stopped a Maroon Chevy Tahoe suspected of being linked to recent train robberies in the area, which have targeted freight trains and resulted in over $2 million in stolen Nike shoes across Arizona and California.

Eight individuals fled the Tahoe on foot, but the male driver, a Mexican national, was detained. Officers found stolen Nike shoes near the vehicle, tying it to the robberies. While investigating, a white Toyota 4Runner was pulled over near Mile Marker 95 on Highway 66 for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle under Arizona’s “move over” law. A Patrol Sergeant and Patrol Officer approached and spotted evidence linking the 4Runner to the train robberies. The female driver initially complied with orders to exit but then jumped back in, sped off, and struck the Patrol Officer while fleeing—luckily, the officer wasn’t injured.

Hualapai Nation Police chased the 4Runner for 80 miles, ending near Mile Marker 1 on Interstate 40 by the Arizona-California state line. The suspect lost control in a construction zone, hit a guardrail, and was ejected, sustaining minor injuries. She was treated at Valley View Medical Center in Mohave Valley before being booked, along with the male driver, into Mohave County Adult Detention Center. Both were in the U.S. illegally, police said. The other eight suspects who fled remain at large. The Hualapai Nation Police thanked the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and Arizona Department of Public Safety for their help.
