CAMP VERDE, Arizona — On April 23, 2025, a routine traffic stop in Yavapai County led to the arrest of Kelly Ford after a thorough investigation uncovered illegal substances in the vehicle. Deputy K-9 Maverick, recently nationally certified, played a key role by providing a positive alert for narcotics, establishing probable cause for a vehicle search. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office commended Maverick for his first successful detection since certification, which resulted in a significant drug seizure.
The search revealed 165 fentanyl pills, 3 grams of cocaine, 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, and 0.4 grams of heroin in Ford’s possession, along with drug paraphernalia. Ford was arrested and booked into Yavapai County Jail, facing charges including two counts of sales of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics, one count of possession of a dangerous drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The seizure of these substances, particularly fentanyl—a highly potent opioid—underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
