MARICOPA COUNTY, Arizona — Detention officers at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) intercepted an attempt to smuggle marijuana between inmates over the weekend.
Officers observed an inmate passing a wad of toilet paper to another inmate, who concealed it in the pocket of a hoodie. Upon searching the inmates, the toilet paper was found in one inmate’s waistband. Inside the toilet paper was 12.1 grams of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana.
Charges against both inmates are pending. The MCSO highlighted the vigilance of its detention officers in preventing contraband from circulating within the facility.
